The trek begins in Kathmandu, Nepal’s bustling capital city. Before heading into the mountains, you’ll explore some of its most iconic UNESCO World Heritage Sites — such as Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Boudhanath Stupa, and Pashupatinath Temple. These sacred places provide a deep sense of connection to Nepal’s diverse spiritual roots and offer a meaningful start to the adventure.
It’s not just sightseeing — it’s the opening chapter to a deeper experience that continues to unfold in the highlands.

From Kathmandu, a scenic drive takes you to Syabrubesi, a small riverside town that marks the starting point of the trek. Located on the banks of the Bhote Koshi River, Syabrubesi is a traditional Tamang village, giving you the first glimpse into the local culture. As the trek begins, the trail leads you through thick forests filled with rhododendron, oak, and pine trees. If you’re lucky, you may even spot some rare wildlife — including Himalayan monals, langurs, and the elusive red panda.

As you ascend further into the Langtang Valley, the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic. Snow-covered peaks appear in the distance, and charming villages like Lama Hotel and Ghodatabela provide warm hospitality along the way. Eventually, you reach Kyanjin Gompa (3,870m) — a serene village nestled beneath towering mountains. Here, you’ll find a centuries-old monastery and a local cheese factory that produces yak cheese, a regional specialty.
This is also a place where time seems to slow down, allowing you to simply breathe and take in the mountains around you.

From Kyanjin Gompa, you’ll take a day hike to Tserko Ri (5,000m+), one of the best viewpoints in the region. The climb is challenging but rewarding, with 360-degree views of the Langtang Lirung range, Dorje Lakpa, and other nearby peaks. The early morning light casting a golden glow on the mountains is an image you’ll never forget.

After spending time in the Langtang Valley, the route turns toward Gosaikunda, a sacred alpine lake system perched at an elevation of 4,380 meters. The trail gradually climbs through scenic ridges and yak pastures, eventually revealing the shimmering turquoise waters of Gosaikunda Lake. According to local belief, the lake was created by Lord Shiva, and its waters possess divine healing properties. The area holds great significance for both Hindus and Buddhists, and it is a popular pilgrimage site during the Janai Purnima festival.

You’ll also pass several smaller lakes — including Bhairav Kunda and Saraswati Kunda — before crossing the highest point of the trek: Laurebina Pass (4,610m). From here, the views are absolutely breathtaking. Surrounded by peaks and pristine wilderness, this part of the trek offers a deep sense of solitude and connection with nature.

After crossing the pass, the trail begins to descend through beautiful forested hills and remote highland settlements. Each step brings you closer to the end of the trek, and offers time for reflection on everything you’ve seen and experienced. Eventually, you make your way back to the trailhead and return to Kathmandu by road, completing a full-circle journey through some of Nepal’s most sacred and scenic terrain.
